Student Success Program

The Student Success Program places our volunteers in local schools to help children develop a love of learning and reading. Our volunteers read to children, provide tutoring, homework help and support the transition from middle school to high school and from high school to college or career. Our Adopt-a-School initiative, whereby one of our guilds is paired with one of our partner schools, also falls under the Student Success Program.

Tutoring and Transition

Our tutors commit to weekly sessions in our partner schools to provide academic support in a variety of academic subjects. Our reading tutors are trained in a phonics-based reading curriculum, Really Great Reading, that teaches key phonics concepts and provides students with a firm foundation in decoding and reading fluency. Volunteers also help with high school and college transition work- assisting with essay writing and mock interviews.

Early Literacy (Book Bunch)

Book Bunch is an early literacy intervention for children in Pre-K through first grade. Book Bunch instills a love of books and reading by engaging children and their parents in fun, literacy-rich activities. Volunteers lead story time, reading age-appropriate books to children and then engage them in activities and crafts related to the theme of the book.

Adopt a School

The Adopt-a-School initiative is an effort to provide material support to our partner schools. Our guilds adopt a school and support them by providing uniforms, coats, sports equipment, field trip funding, classroom supplies and technology. In addition, they support special events at the school and provide treats like Teacher Appreciation luncheons.
